Droopy Eyelids Stole Jim’s Vision – Dr. Adele’s Surgery Changed Everything
Before going under Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammadi’s care (or “Dr. Adele” as her patients call her) for eyelid surgery, Jim Miley had made the rounds of Los Angeles-based ophthalmologists. About six months ago, he was referred to the Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI) to examine his heavily draped eyelids. The goal was to have blepharoplasty eyelid surgery so he could regain his full peripheral vision.
“When I went in for a consultation, Dr. Adele took plenty of time with me,” says Jim, a former TV sitcom editor. “She’s wonderful and very attentive. She was very different from other doctors I had seen.”
About Jim’s blepharoplasty eyelid surgery with Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammadi
It was Dr. Adele’s warmth and care, in combination with her before and after pictures, that told me I had finally found the right surgeon for me.
Jim’s double eyelid surgery began with Dr. Adele administering local anesthesia with some intravenous sedation to help him stay relaxed. Before the procedure, she marked the sagging areas around his eyes with a surgical pen where her incisions would be made.
Step one focused on the upper area between Jim’s eyelashes and eyebrows. It eliminated excess skin and fat through an incision in the natural crease of his eye socket, making the incision barely visible. The skin was closed using stitches.
The doctor then concentrated on the area between the lower eyelid, the lower lash line, and the cheek. This step tightens the lower lid droop of excess loose skin, muscle, or fat under the eyelids. The incision was made under the eyelash line, extending past the outer corner of the eye (into the area where the crow’s feet tend to be located).
The entire surgery, from start to finish, took a little less than three hours for both eyes.
Eyelid surgery recovery

The first week after surgery involved a lot of ice, rest, and some discomfort. “It was sore for a week,” says Jim. “That’s because she pulled everything tight.”
“My eye lids drooped and she cut those first, and that got rid of my crow’s feet,” he says, adding that the doctor also took a mole off the side of his nose, which was benign.
A little over a week after his surgery, Jim drove 1.5 hours back to Beverly Hills from Santa Clarita and had his stitches removed. “When she took the stitches out, it confirmed that she knew her stuff,” says Jim. “Plus, she’s a nice lady.”
Jim points out that he still has a little crinkle on one side of his eye. That’s because he didn’t want to seem like he had any “work” done using eyelift surgery. In that area, he was successful. “My daughters didn’t even notice anything different,” says Jim, 74, adding that the AGEI nurses were all helpful to his experience.
In addition to seeing better, Jim also feels better. “Dr. Adele took 10 years off my life and made me look younger,” he beams. “I couldn’t be any happier.”

Jim then consults with other AGEI doctors
Even though his droopy eyelid surgery is now in the rearview mirror, Jim has other ongoing eye problems that he is addressing with AGEI professionals, Svetlana Pilyugina (Dr. P), and Dr. Lindsay Harris.
Jim is one of the unfortunate people who suffer from floaters, small shapes that appear to float in their field of vision. He meets Dr. P every three months to monitor his eyes for retinal detachments and take retina pictures.
He is also seeing Dr. Harris for his dry eye disease. Dry eye is a common condition in which the eyes don’t produce enough tears or the tears evaporate too quickly, leading to inflammation and discomfort. Treatments can range from over-the-counter eye drops and prescription anti-inflammatory drops to surgery that closes the tear ducts.
Jim is more than pleased with all the care he’s received at AGEI. “I easily give them five stars,” he beams.
