Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery
Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery, the most advanced cataract procedure available
Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery was developed at the Assil Gaur Eye Institute by Dr. Kerry Assil. The “EAGLE” acronym stands for:
Enriched optics,
Aberrometry Guided,
Lenticular Enhancement
Our Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery offers you highly precise, customized treatment for sharper vision and faster recovery. Our experience shows it provides the best outcomes of all cataract eye surgery procedures.
What’s “normal” cataract surgery like?
In the “normal” experience, you come into a surgical center, have the cataract removed through a tiny incision, and a new lens is placed inside your eye. You go home the same day.
After surgery, you’ll use prescribed eye drops, wear an eye shield for a short time, and return for follow-up visits so the eye doctor can monitor healing. Vision often improves within a few days, with gradual stabilization over the following postoperative weeks.
Modern cataract surgery is technically called phacoemulsification. It is a very common outpatient procedure with three to four million performed in the US alone.

What makes Eagle Vision cataract surgery so different?
The important difference is the exacting precision with which each surgical step is performed.
The goals of cataract removal and lens replacement remain the same, as do the after-surgery instructions. What changes is how the surgery is performed at various stages and how the replacement lens (IOL) is selected. This makes Eagle Vision a far more individualized procedure than standard cataract surgery.
Let’s explain each section in detail...
Enriched optics during surgery = “augmented reality”
Traditional cataract surgery is performed using a microscope. During EAGLE Vision surgery, the procedure is performed using a high-definition, Heads-Up, 3D viewing system that projects the eye onto a very large high-resolution screen.
That change sounds simple, but it creates a huge transformation. The magnification is now 20 times (20X) greater. There is also increased depth of focus, offering a clearer, more detailed view of structures such as the cornea, iris, and lens, and even the back of your eye. All in all, structural variations inside your eye are easier to distinguish, and subtle differences in tissue (in every part of the eye) become more highly visible.
Another aspect is the Digitally Augmented Contrast. The increased contrast helps distinguish layers that might otherwise blend. The significantly improved visibility means your surgeon doesn’t need to rely on increasing external lighting to see better.
And speaking about the lighting...the light intensity of our Heads-Up system is typically ten times (10X) less than the maximum light output of a traditional operating microscope.
The improved lighting situation from both factors means you will be infinitely more comfortable during the procedure and eliminates the risk of retina damage, such as central retina phototoxicity.
There’s also a practical advantage. Your surgeon isn’t locked into one position at a microscope. They can sit comfortably and adjust their position as needed. This can improve their control and precision during delicate parts of the procedure.
In our experience, the improved magnification, digitally enhanced tissue and color contrast, greater depth of focus, reduced lighting intensity and optimal ergonomics (surgeon positioning) all add up to a clearer, far more detailed view of what’s happening in the eye in real time. In short, better surgery.
Aberrometry-guided optics
Most cataract surgeons rely exclusively on pre-surgery ultrasound measurements to determine the proper vision correction prescription. This means that the prescription measurements for your new IOL lens are taken while your cloudy natural lens is still intact. With this approach, up to 40% of implanted IOL lenses are not the optimal prescription!
In the EAGLE Vision protocol, those measurements serve only as a starting point. During EAGLE Vision cataract surgery, your eye is measured again after the cloudy lens has been removed.
As you look at a blinking red dot, a laser system takes up to 40 measurements in seconds to determine your vision ranges and astigmatism correction.
Without the cloudy lens getting in the way, EAGLE Vision’s Aberrometry-Guided process determines the ideal lens for each patient’s eye.
Once the IOL has been inserted into your eye, measurements are taken again to confirm everything is perfectly aligned and to further guide any astigmatism correction.
Often, after the additional measurements, we find that the initial ultrasound prescription is not the best fit. This is not a problem. Our team at the Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI) has a huge inventory of IOLs in every prescription, so your surgeon has the right lens for you “on hand.”
As a result of the EAGLE Vision protocol, fewer than 3% of patients will need future revision surgery (such as LASIK). This is compared with the alternative of up to 40% (as described earlier).
Lenticular enhancement
Replacing your cloudy, existing lens is the most important part of cataract surgery, but not all synthetic replacement lenses are the same. There are different options, including monofocal lenses for distance, extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses, multifocal lenses (for an even larger range of vision), and toric lenses designed to correct astigmatism.
The challenge is choosing the one that will work best for how you actually use your eyes.
AGEI's Eagle Vision cataract replacement lens algorithm, a difference you will see
Standard cataract surgeons pick a replacement lens for your cloudy cataract lens by simply doing ultrasound measurements. Then the patient decides whether they want a wider and clearer range of vision with their new lens (not covered by insurance). Or do they just wear eyeglasses or contact lenses after surgery?
The Eagle Vision protocol not only offers freedom from glasses but also selects the specific IOL (from a range of 12 options). To do this, our Assil Gaur team takes into account much more of your eye anatomy and lifestyle.
Studying each patient's ocular anatomy and unique lifestyles helps us deliver the very best cataract replacement lenses (IOLs)
Our precise measurements of each patient's ocular anatomy are critical because factors such as pupil diameter, corneal curvature, corneal clarity, ocular size, prior surgeries, and ocular health heavily affect visual outcomes.
But so do each patient's day-to-day activities and lifestyle. Taking other factors into account, such as how much time you read, or how many hours a day you use digital screens, how often you drive at night, and other hobbies or work tasks, all matter.
Based on these factors, the Eagle Vision algorithm (developed at AGEI) helps our surgeons deliver outcomes that best match each patient’s desired vision outcome. And in the final analysis, patients understand the advantages of each available premium IOL option.
The Eagle Vision Cataract Protocol simply delivers a far more individualized procedure than standard cataract surgery.
Why is Assil Gaur Eye Institute your best choice for cataract surgery in Los Angeles
If your vision has grown blurry, hazy, or less vibrant than it used to be, cataract surgery can be life-changing. Choosing where to have it done matters just as much as the decision to move forward. At Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI), our goal is to give you not only clearer sight but the confidence that comes from being cared for by some of the most experienced ophthalmologists in the country.
Our legacy dates back to the founding of modern cataract surgery
Few practices can trace their roots as far back as ours. AGEI was chartered in 1949 by Dr. Robert M. Sinskey, widely regarded as the father of modern cataract surgery. In 1995, Dr. Kerry Assil joined Dr. Sinskey to build a world-class private eye institute in Los Angeles, and that shared vision grew into the Assil Gaur Eye Institute we know today.
That history is more than a point of pride. It means the techniques refined in our operating rooms have helped shape the way cataract surgery is performed worldwide.
Advanced technology for a more precise procedure
Better outcomes often start with better tools. As the inventor of the Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery Protocol, Dr. Kerry Assil doesn’t just use the latest technology; he also creates it.
Surgeons who help train other surgeons
When you choose AGEI, you are choosing the team other eye doctors learn from. Dr. Kerry Assil has taught state-of-the-art surgical skills to more than 10,000 ophthalmologists worldwide, and our institute has participated in dozens of clinical trials overseen by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), often as a lead investigator.
This depth of experience translates directly into your care. Our ophthalmologists have performed tens of thousands of cataract procedures, and they bring that expertise to every step of your treatment plan.
Premium lens options tailored to your vision
Cataract surgery replaces your clouded natural lens with a clear artificial one called an intraocular lens (IOL). The lens you choose shapes how you will see for years to come, so our ophthalmologists take the time to walk you through every option.
Alongside standard single-vision lenses, we offer more than a dozen advanced premium IOLs, including the Johnson & Johnson Odyssey lens and the TECNIS PureSee, which is designed to deliver LASIK-like clarity across near, intermediate, and distance vision. Many patients are able to reduce or even eliminate their dependence on glasses, though results vary from person to person.
Patient-first care from consultation through recovery
Eye surgery can feel daunting, and we never lose sight of that. From your first consultation, our team takes the time to answer your questions, explain your options in plain language, and make sure you feel heard and confident before moving forward.
Our team is with you every step of the way and through every follow-up to help protect the results and support a smooth recovery.
Trusted across Los Angeles and beyond
Patients travel from across the country and overseas to our Beverly Hills and Santa Monica locations, and our reputation has earned the trust of internationally recognized athletes, performers, and everyday Angelenos alike. What unites them is simple: a desire to protect their vision with care they can 100% count on.

Eagle VIsion Cataract Surgery FAQs
Can Eagle Vision Cataract Surgery deliver sharper clarity and a more comfortable recovery?
With Eagle Vision cataract, the focus is on refined precision. It’s been our experience that patients often describe their results as sharper, clearer vision and a faster, more comfortable recovery.
You might notice slightly crisper distance vision, while night vision may feel a bit cleaner. And halos and glare during the adjustment period can be slightly less noticeable.
Overall clarity across near vision, intermediate, and distance ranges can feel more balanced. These subtle differences can have a meaningful impact on many patients.
Why isn’t Eagle Vision cataract surgery available elsewhere?
There are several reasons, and they include:
Eagle Vision cataract surgery requires highly trained surgeons
This surgical approach relies on advanced technology and precise real-time measurements, so only the most experienced surgical teams can fully utilize its benefits.
Eagle Vision cataract needs specialized equipment and knowledge
Eagle Vision cataract surgery combines enhanced optics, real-time Aberrometry, additional pre-operative testing, and a proprietary customized lens algorithm, demanding careful consideration and coordination during surgery. This equipment and knowledge are not things that most cataract surgery centers possess.
