AG Aesthetics brings Los Angeles the Alma Hybrid Laser: The only facial laser that does it all

Have you been thinking about doing something for your skin? Perhaps reducing acne scars and stretch marks, fading that sun damage, refreshing dull or uneven skin tone, or simply turning back the clock on years of wear?

You have probably heard that laser treatments are among the most effective options available, and that is true.  But with so many laser devices on the market, how do you know which one is right for you?

At AG Aesthetics, the aesthetics division of the Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI) in Los Angeles, is proud to introduce the Alma Hybrid, one of the most advanced lasers for skin and eyelid rejuvenation available today.

What are Aesthetic ophthalmologists?

Aesthetic ophthalmologists (also known as oculoplastic surgeons), are board-certified eye doctors with fellowship training in plastic surgery of the eyelids, orbit, and lacrimal system. They combine functional eye care with cosmetic procedures, such as blepharoplasty, brow lifts, and dermal fillers, BOTOX, and laser resurfacing, to name just a few. They are the true experts to work around the delicate structures of the eye

Board-certified aesthetic ophthalmologists Dr. Avneet K. Sodhi Gaur and Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammadi (Dr. Adele) offer this top-of-the-line dual-laser platform: the very best of an ablative CO2 laser and non-ablative laser technology in a single, highly customizable treatment for skin and eyelid rejuvenation.

A brief history of Alma Lasers

To understand why the Alma Hybrid stands out, it helps to know a little about the company behind it. Alma Lasers was founded and incorporated in 1999, though its roots go back to the early 1980s. Since then, Alma has grown into one of the top three medical aesthetics companies in the world. The company’s mission has always been to translate genuine clinical need into cutting-edge technology — developing laser, light-based, radiofrequency, and ultrasound solutions that are safe, effective, and backed by solid research.

What is the Alma Hybrid laser?

The Alma Hybrid is a next-generation, dual-wavelength fractional laser platform. This is the world’s first laser platform to combine two laser types: an ablative CO2 laser and a non-ablative 1570nm laser, in a single device. This advanced laser combination delivers a dual-action thermal effect, yielding clinical results neither laser can achieve on its own.

Another plus is that this platform has been approved by the FDA. In the skilled hands of AGEI aesthetic ophthalmologists, it offers advanced fractional laser resurfacing while keeping risks and downtime to a reasonable level.

What makes the Alma Hybrid different?

The Alma Hybrid is a next-generation laser platform that combines two powerful technologies into one treatment session. Rather than choosing between approaches, you get both working together for more comprehensive results and less downtime.

Alma Hybrid Laser device used for advanced eye laser procedures at Assil Gaur Eye Institute.

The first is a CO2 laser, a resurfacing treatment that removes damaged outer layers of skin while stimulating deep collagen production. It’s ideal for targeting deep wrinkles, acne scars, sun damage, and crepey skin, particularly around the eyes.

The second is a non-ablative erbium laser that works beneath the skin surface without removing the top layer. By contrast, the CO2 laser leaves the surface of the skin — the epidermis, largely untouched. Instead, it delivers heat energy into the deeper layers of the skin, the dermis, stimulating collagen production without causing an open wound on the surface.

The trade-off with traditional CO2 lasers is that their non-ablative treatments tend to require many more sessions and produce much more gradual results.

The Alma HybridLaser is the first device in the world to combine these approaches simultaneously and in a fully customizable ratio.

This patented technology is called HyGrid. With HyGrid, the experts at AG Aesthetics can control the laser energy. They can dial up more of the ablative CO2 energy for more dramatic resurfacing or lean toward the non-ablative 1570 nm wavelength for a gentler treatment with minimal downtime. Or anything in between. No other laser on the market currently offers this level of control.

“Great results come from matching the right settings to the individual patients’ skin, and never by using the same setting on everyone.” – Dr. Gaur

Why this matters for eyelid care

The sin around your eyes is among the most delicate on your face. As board-certified eye surgeons and aesthetic ophthalmologists, our team understands this part of the body better than anyone. And the Alma Hybrid allows us to safely and effectively resurface and tighten that area. That’s also why pairing the Alma Hybrid with eyelid surgery can elevate your surgical results to the next level.

Which skin concerns can the Alma Hybrid treat?

The Alma Hybrid can be used for a very wide range of skin concerns. This is because of the way the laser was built. Its dual-laser construction allows experts to adjust the ratio of ablative to non-ablative energy.

At AG Aesthetics, Dr. Gaur and Dr. Adele may recommend the Alma Hybrid for numerous reasons, including:

Fine lines, deep wrinkles, and skin laxity

Heat at both wavelengths stimulates collagen production and causes existing collagen fibers to contract. The result is firmer, smoother skin with a visible reduction in fine lines and early signs of looseness.

Acne scars and acne scarring

Both shallow and deeper acne scars (ice pick, boxcar, and rolling scars) respond well to fractional laser resurfacing. Studies have shown that CO2 laser skin resurfacing can produce improvements of 69–75% in the appearance of atrophic acne scars, with continued collagen remodeling observed up to 18 months after treatment.

Sun-damaged skin, melasma, and hyperpigmentation

Often, makeup cannot fully hide these dark spots, the uneven skin tone, and the rough skin texture caused by sun exposure and other conditions. Laser resurfacing removes the damaged outer layers of skin, allowing a more even skin tone and improved texture.

Surgical scars and trauma scars

The Alma Hybrid is used by plastic surgeons and dermatologists internationally for scar treatment, including both older and newer scars from surgery or injury.

Enlarged pores, rough texture, and small bumps

Fractional resurfacing encourages new, smoother skin to replace areas that look dull or uneven. In experienced hands, the system can also remove certain benign growths such as skin tags or keratoses with great precision.

Stretch marks

Fractional laser resurfacing can visibly improve the texture and color of stretch marks by stimulating the deeper layers of the skin to produce new collagen and elastin fibers.

Eyelid and under-eye area

Using gentle laser settings, Dr. Adele and Dr. Gaur can perform what some call a “mini non-surgical blepharoplasty” to tighten crepey lids, soften under-eye wrinkles, and lessen dark circles or bags for certain patients. This gives you a refreshed eye area without surgery.

General skin rejuvenation and resurfacing

Even without a specific skin condition, many patients simply want their skin to look healthier, more radiant, and more youthful. A single treatment session can meaningfully refresh skin tone, texture, and overall appearance.

Is the Alma Hybrid right for your skin type?

The Alma Hybrid is safe for all skin types.

During your consultation, our medical skin specialists will review your goals, assess your skin type, and design a personalized Alma Hybrid Laser plan that fits your needs and schedule, with minimal downtime. For some people, that might include combining laser resurfacing with other aesthetic treatments, such as Botox or fillers, for optimal results.

Why choose the Alma Hybrid for your laser treatment?

The expert team at AG Aesthetics (and our patients!) love the Alma Hybrid Laser for its customizable options, powerful results, and faster recovery times compared to traditional resurfacing lasers. Key benefits of Alma Hybrid treatments include:

  • Visible improvement after just one session.
  • Minimal to moderate downtime (typically 1–7 days).
  • Adjustable intensity to suit different skin types and goals.
  • Long-lasting results that continue to improve over time.
  • Safe for face, neck, décolletage, and body.

What to expect: before and during your treatment

Before

Your journey begins with a consultation. Dr. Gaur or Dr. Adele will assess your skin, discuss your goals, and design a personalized treatment plan that balances the results you are looking for with the recovery time you can manage. No two patients are treated the same way — this is one of the key advantages of the Alma Hybrid’s technology.

During

Most patients find Alma Hybrid Laser treatments very manageable. The ProScan handpiece (specially designed for the Alma Laser) has a cooled tip. Just in case, a topical anesthetic (numbing cream) is usually applied before the session starts. You might feel warmth, tingling, or brief prickling, but patients often describe it as easily tolerable.

The Alma ProScan applicator is then guided over the skin in the planned pattern. The treatment itself is relatively quick, particularly for smaller treatment areas.

treatment-stages

What to expect after Alma Hybrid Laser treatment

Following an Alma Hybrid laser treatment, it is normal to experience a period of redness, peeling, and skin sensitivity as your skin heals and renews itself. The intensity and duration of these effects will depend on the depth of your treatment, but most patients follow a predictable recovery timeline.

Redness and skin sensitivity

Redness is one of the most common and expected side effects after treatment. Most patients experience mild redness for approximately 2 to 5 days, while more moderate treatments may result in redness lasting up to 7 to 10 days. In some cases, a subtle pink tone can persist for several weeks as the skin continues to heal and remodel.

During this time, your skin may also feel warm or sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn. This is a normal part of the healing process.

Peeling and skin renewal

As your skin begins to regenerate, peeling typically starts around days 3 to 5 and can last for several days. This process is essential for revealing healthier, refreshed skin underneath.

It is important to avoid picking, peeling, or exfoliating the skin, as this can interfere with healing and increase the risk of irritation or pigmentation changes.

About returning to daily activities after Alma Hybrid Laser treatment

Most patients can gradually return to normal daily activities within a few days, but certain precautions are necessary to protect the skin during healing.

Makeup can usually be applied after about 48 hours, provided the skin is intact and not overly sensitive. When resuming makeup, use clean brushes and gentle products to avoid irritation.

You may shower the day after treatment, but it is important to keep showers short and avoid hot water or steam. High-pressure water should not be directed at the treated area.

Exercise and physical activity

Exercise should be limited in the early recovery period to avoid excess heat and sweating, which can irritate the skin.

  • Light activity, such as walking, can typically be resumed after 24–48 hours
  • Moderate exercise is usually safe after 3–5 days
  • Intense workouts and heavy sweating should be avoided for 5–7 days, or until the skin has healed

Returning to exercise too soon may prolong redness and delay recovery.

Grooming and shaving

If you shave, it is best to wait approximately 5–7 days, or until the skin has fully healed and is no longer sensitive. When you resume shaving, use a clean razor and a gentle technique to minimize irritation.

Cleansing your skin after treatment

In most cases, you can gently wash your face 24 hours after your procedure, unless your provider gives you different instructions based on your treatment intensity. When cleansing, use lukewarm water and a mild, non-foaming cleanser to avoid irritating the skin.

It’s important to avoid scrubbing, exfoliating, or using washcloths or cleansing brushes during this time, as the skin is especially delicate. Instead, gently rinse and pat your skin dry with a clean, soft towel. Keeping the skin clean while maintaining a gentle approach helps support healing and reduces the risk of irritation or complications.

Sun exposure and skin protection

Protecting your skin from the sun is one of the most important parts of your recovery. After treatment, your skin is more vulnerable to damage and pigmentation changes.

For at least 2 to 4 weeks, you should:

  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30–50+ daily
  • Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours when outdoors
  • Wear protective clothing, including hats and sunglasses
  • Avoid prolonged or direct sun exposure

Consistent sun protection not only prevents complications but also helps preserve and enhance your results.

What to avoid during Alma Hybrid Laser recovery

To support proper healing and achieve the best outcome, it is important to avoid activities and products that may irritate the skin. This includes:

  • Heat exposure, such as saunas, hot tubs, and steam rooms
  • Sweating or intense physical activity in the early days
  • Active skincare ingredients like retinol, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C
  • Picking, peeling, or scrubbing the skin
  • Direct sun exposure

Most patients notice significant improvements in skin tone, texture, and overall appearance within a few weeks, with continued improvement for up to a year or more after their session(s).

Your Assil Gaur care team will schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and advise on whether additional sessions or complementary skincare would benefit your results.

Alma Hybrid Laser FAQs

How many Alma Hybrid laser sessions will you need?

The number of Alma Hybrid Laser sessions depends on your skin concerns and which protocol you choose. Your AGEI specialist will discuss a realistic treatment plan with you during your consultation, including how often to schedule visits for the best balance between results and downtime.

What are the signs of a complication following the laser treatment?

Mild redness, swelling, and peeling are normal. However, contact your provider if you experience:

  • Severe or worsening pain
  • Pus, discharge, or signs of infection
  • Fever
  • Prolonged swelling or delayed healing

Can Alma Hybrid cause hyperpigmentation?

While uncommon, hyperpigmentation can occur, particularly if the skin is exposed to sun during healing. This is why strict sun protection is essential. Your provider will also customize treatment settings to minimize this risk based on your skin type.

When can I restart retinol or active skincare?

You can usually resume active ingredients such as retinol, exfoliating acids, and vitamin C after 7–10 days, once your skin has fully healed and is no longer sensitive.

How should I sleep after treatment?

For the first few nights:

  • Sleep on your back
  • Keep your head slightly elevated
  • Use a clean pillowcase

This helps reduce swelling and prevents irritation.

Can I drink alcohol after treatment?

It’s best to avoid alcohol for 24–48 hours, as it can increase inflammation and slow the healing process.

Can I combine Alma Hybrid with other treatments?

Yes, Alma Hybrid can be combined with treatments like Botox or fillers, but timing matters. Your provider will guide you on when it is safe to schedule additional procedures based on your treatment plan.
