My only negative comment would be about the horrendously long 90210 Health site questionnaire. IMO, It was needlessly deep with hundreds of questions and took 20-30 minutes to go through with medical questions I've never been asked before (I'm 74). I was not prepared for such an ordeal, and it left me wondering who 90210 Health was or if it was even part of your company! A little heads up it was coming would've been appropriate, as it came out of the blue, and suggested I might not be permitted to continue if I didn't fill it out completely!

Doctor Assil did a great job on my Lasik, but there was very little acknowledgement of the fact that I traveled out of state to see him multiple times…consult, procedure and follow up. He was in and out in less than 5 minutes each time. I get that he’s busy—I’m also a physician—but the process just felt very robotic to me. Optometrist popped in at one point and didn’t even introduce herself and just said she’s there to check my eyes. An introduction would’ve been nice. I guess I just expected more given the expense, traveling out of state 3x and the fact that 6 of my family members have been treated by him. Thats why I came, otherwise I would’ve just had it done closer to home. They want me to come back in 3 months to check and then determine if I need a touch up—had the bedside manner been better, I would’ve booked flights right away. Given my experience, there’s no way I’m going to spend hundreds of dollars to fly in, rent a car, and come in only to be seen for 5 minutes.

A caring human in the office squeezed me in with Dr. Guar in BH between a surgery and a photo shoot and at the end of the day, on an emergency basis - and still she took her time, was calm and thorough, and never made me feel like I was an inconvenience. She was reassuring and detailed. Whether in the Santa Monica office or in Beverly Hills, the staff is welcoming and they put you at ease. This is rare in medicine these days. I think all the options for lenses to put in your eye should be made very clear as far as cost and what the lenses can do by your surgical consultant. Unknown to me my eye doctor of 40 years had written a note suggesting what he felt was best for me - a far view lens and a close up reading lens . The $11,000 close, near and far lenses not covered by medicare were heavily pushed by my first surgical consultant. I asked if medicare covered the toric lens for astigmitism correction. I was simply told no. That is true but I was not told that medicare covers a lot of it with only $1500 left to pay by the patient . She told me unless I ordered the $11,000 lenses I would have to wear glasses after the surgery. I left feeling pretty let down.
I called my doctor of 40 years asking what I should do which is when I found out about the note. I was then assigned to a different surgical consultant and we got the correct solution for me and I am very happy with the results.
My suggestion is to explain more thoroughly what to expect from the different choices for lenses , the actual cost you will incur especially if Medicare will pay for a lot of it - don't leave out details.

My expectations have been exceeded in being the recipient of this eye groups professional care given in such personal ways. The day I visited you were short-staffed (technicians), so the wait was longer. I didn't care much about it.
What I did care about was that doctor seemed to be in a rush, so I couldn't ask al the questions I wanted to ask and I didn't push it - will do next time, though.
I understand the business side of any hospital/medical care facility; devoting the necessary time to each patient to remove any shadow of a doubt is paramount, though.
In my profession, I have learned that even though some things are crystal clear/elementary to me, I must devote the right amount of time to explain it all to my client, and thoroughly.

It's very stressful sitting in the waiting room. It would be helpful if people in the waiting areas were not permitted to play music or content on their phones out loud (very very loud & annoying). They should be required to use headphones or ear buds, especially if they seem to be somewhat deaf. One is anxious enough before surgery or similar procedure.

I was seen by both Dr Assil and Gaur. I was happy with both. At first it was thought that I might have glaucoma which fortunately I do not. Dr Gaur says toric lenses will yield the best result. I was recommended a procedure for dry eyes - which is remarkable - however to my dismay it was nearly $3500 and my insurance is questioning payment. I wish it was upfront with the high cost. I should have asked, however, I was swept into the excitement and I did not expect it to cost several thousands dollars.
I hope my insurance covers most of this cost because this will set me back financially. This may not be the proper forum to bring this up and depending on the outcome I will contact the proper channels. I do appreciate the opportunity to express my concerns on this survey.

Dr. Gaur was recommended by my sister, Joyce Whitehead, who stated the services were exceptional. And she was correct. I found the support staff and both doctors extremely knowledgeable and very patient with my questions. My only reservation is that when I met with the team member to possibly schedule cataract surgery, a new recently approved light adjustment procedure -- which was recommended -- had not been priced yet. As the cost would not be covered by insurance, this information would have been very helpful. I am still deciding if that procedure and the accompanying cost (still unknown) and travel required are my best options.

We did not check the hand-outs until the day before and were startled to find that we were late on starting medications.

From the surgery scheduler that booked my surgery dates and pre-op request to my primary doctor, Alaska Graddy; to Sharron Hickman who explained my medications and provided a detailed table in writing to follow throughout the required time. I called Sharon a number of times and she never sounded too busy to help me with my concerns.
I was very careful to do the eye medication allowing 5 minutes between the different drugs. However, I was surprised that the nurse, Lorraine, did not allow a wait time on the morning of the surgery between drops. Eye drops of medication was entered one after the other no wait period.
It took a while for my husband to come, so I was the last or second to the last to be picked up. The surgery area was empty. He said he came as soon as he was called. The LVN, Janice, I believe mentioned that this was my second time which confused me. I believe the record she was referring was from a glaucoma procedure done at 90210 a earlier period, not cataracts surgery. So I was sure I got a full review of what to do when I got home, but given the folded instructions. Dr. Applegate took care 👍

Overall, i liked the staff and their professionalism. The only thing I would suggest is the wait time between seeing the technician's exams. It seemed like I had to wait a long time between each visit including the doctor. I guess if I was told that it would be say 10 or 15 minutes before someone would come in it would have been better. other than that I was very happy with the procedure and the results and the follow up visit was just terrific. Concerns about the following:
1. The short period of time in going without wearing hard contacts to schedule the first eye cataract surgery, and only two days before proceeding with the second surgery; other sources recommend not wearing hard contacts for a month before undergoing surgery and lubricating eyes 6-8x a day during the month.
2. More explanation about the the temporary management of high blood pressure immediately before cataract surgery, if patient is not taking blood pressure medicine.
3. After lens measurements, etc., discovering that most of the costs would be out-of-pocket, if surgery includes astigmatism correction for both eyes, which is my case.
4. Determining the best procedure when there are many options that appear to be complicated towards making the right decision.
5. What to do in between surgeries in terms of reading and driving, if one eye has undergone surgery and the other eye is scheduled afterwards, if there are no complications.

I was being treated with the Valeda technology. No one ever explained exactly what the treatment involved, how many serie I would need, and the likely results. One technician said I should wait 4 months to see Dr. P, another technician said I might not need more treatments.
I did make an appointment with dr. P for March 2nd but still have not received an answer to whether or not I will need my eyes dilated. One tech. says probably, another says check with the office (not easy to get through. Other eye institutes (Arizona and 20th) explained in detail what the procedure was all about, expected results, time, probably 2 years with 3 , 9 series of appointments.
I will continue with this treatment as I definitely see results and my vision has improved a little bit. Wish I was better informed about what to expect and when.

I was charged the wrong amount for my visit. I told the front desk what the copay should be. They told me I was wrong and that there was a deductible. When I contacted my insurance company, they told me I was correct and had overpaid. I called the billing department to let them know. They said once the insurance company had paid its portion, I would be reimbursed for the overpayment. That still hasn't happened. I get that insurance can be tricky, but I would still like to be reimbursed for my overpayment.

The staff was amazing. Everybody was very nice. My provider sent my chalazion sample to the lab to assess for cancer and directly stated she would follow up with me. To date, I haven’t heard anything via phone, email, text, etc. This is a quality and safety issue. I had a ride home; however, nobody ensured I was fine to leave the office after my procedure. This is a safety issue. Overall, everything was fine, but feedback that could be used to provide a better patient experience to protect your patients. Personally, I wouldn’t return because of the practice overlooking patient safety, quality, and clinical outcomes.

The surgery team was fantastic! I was told about my amounts due at the time of my procedure, but was not told how it was going to be distributed, as it was a surprise when it was charged the day before my surgery, and it made me concerned, and I was thinking my money was being sent to businesses I was not aware of. It all turned out fine, but not without some concern the day before, and I was panicking.

Paperwork from my regular doctor was not sent over prior to my procedure, leading to day-of scrambling and someone from my family physically needing to drive to my doctor's office to have it sent over. This seems like an easy step that both sides missed and should already be built into pre-surgery checks at the Assil office! Also, my prescriptions were not sent to the pharmacy until the day before I needed to start taking them which created last-minute stress. Regarding pre-surgery paperwork, adding the generic medication names to the list of eye drops (in addition to the brand names) would be helpful to avoid confusion.

This review is for Dr May who was WONDERFUL. He took the time to talk and explained results from my Nov 17 visit. I will continue to see Dr May in the future.
I would not recommend Dr Harris to anyone. She did procedures that I did NOT authorize, but for which I was subsequently billed. She prescribed meds that were horrendously expensive ($2400!!) for my husband, Christopher Darrow and never once mentioning the cost. Most of all, Dr Harris never told us that we could have gotten these eyedrops for NOTHING, simply by requesting a waiver. She prescribed eye drops for both of us and never produced the written documentation required by law. My pharmacist said "my doctor should provide that info". I already stated this to Dr Assil in a 3 page document and in a 3/4 hr telephone call. Nothing came of that. I have great respect for Dr Assil, but feel that the "Assil Clinic" failed in their responsibility to the patient. In fact, I had scheduled my Nov 17 appointment with Dr Assil because he had done the cataract surgery. I wanted to know if there could be a correction for THAT! Instead, I was forced to see Dr Harris and her "hard sell" for more procedures and expensive meds.
