Dr. Adele’s Blepharoplasty surgery helped a veteran cop keep watch over his city

It’s darn near impossible to be an effective policeman if you have difficulty seeing your surroundings, but that’s just what happened to Greg as his eyelids became little slits. “It happened over time,” says Greg. “I believe it was genetic, something my family passed on to me.”

Greg required a procedure called a blepharoplasty, which is an eyelid surgery, to improve vision. The patient typically suffers from sagging upper and lower eyelids, which interfere with their sight. An eye lift removes excess skin, muscle, and fat and restores the eye’s natural contour to a sharper, more youthful appearance.

Dr. Adele’s skillful hands perform eyelid lift surgery

Greg searched the web and discovered the expertise of Dr. Adele, one of the expert staff at Assil Gaur Eye Institute. Dr. Adele specializes in facial aestheticscataractsglaucoma, and LASIK procedures.

Greg explained his problem to Dr. Adele. “I always feel like I look grumpy,” he said, adding that he couldn’t see unless he tensed his brow muscles. “People always assumed I was grumpy, but that didn’t match my mood. I didn’t like the way I was being perceived.”

Dr. Adele immediately performed a line-of-sight vision test, which measures how much you can see without moving your eyes. This test is critical for diagnosing the need for droopy eyelid surgery. Greg failed big-time.

The doctor found that excess skin was obstructing Greg’s vision. He needed a blepharoplasty, and because it was medically necessary, his insurance paid the cost. “It was literally making me tired holding my brow up,” he says. “Inside, I was happy, but outside, I looked grouchy.”

Greg’s double eyelid surgery took roughly two hours for both eyes. Dr. Adele administered local anesthesia with intravenous sedation. Before the procedure, the doctor used a surgical pen to mark the sagging areas where incisions would be made.

“I didn’t feel anything during the surgery except a couple of tugs and pulls,” remarks Greg.

The first step focused on the upper area between Greg’s eyelashes and eyebrows. It eliminated excess skin and fat through an incision in the natural crease of his eye socket, making the incision barely visible. The skin was closed using dissolvable stitches.

The doctor then concentrated on the under-eye area between the lower lash line and the cheek for the bottom. This step tightens the lower lid droop of excess loose skin, muscle, or fat under the eyelids. The incision was made under the eyelash line, extending past the outer corner of the eye (into the area where the crow’s feet tend to be located).

Greg’s recovery from eyelid surgery

After allowing the sedation to wear off, Greg left the Assil Gaur Eye Institute with an ice bag pressed against his eyes and a friend to drive him home.

“I got up and had a little discomfort in my brow,” says Greg. “Throughout the entire process, I didn’t have any pain. The recovery was way easier than I expected.”

Greg took it easy for a few days except for some swelling around the eyes, and then he was good to go.

“The good news is the tiny scars around your eyes will be completely invisible,” says Dr. Adele.

After recovery, the world shines brightly

Now, back patrolling the streets, Greg is all smiles. “I would have done this surgery a lot earlier if I had known it was so simple and painless.” He says, “The procedure allowed my looks to match how I feel.”

Looking hard, there is absolutely nothing about the blepharoplasty that Greg would have preferred to be done differently, including Dr. Adele’s bedside manner. “Dr. Adele was great,” says Greg. “She explained the entire procedure before we got going.”

And what do Greg’s friends think of his transition? “I’ve had several people comment that they never knew I had green eyes,” says Greg, referring to the slits that covered his eyes. “Work is easier, life is easier. I feel 20 years younger in my face.”
