In 2019, middle-schooler Jonathan Jones went viral for this touching video in which he saw color for the first time. Jones is severely colorblind. His school principal (who is also colorblind) shared a pair of glasses that help people see colors their eyes can’t usually detect.
Jones’ genuine, tearful reaction moved viewers around the country and he soon received his own pair of colorblind glasses. Riding the wave of generosity the video generated, Jones’ and his mother started a GoFundMe to raise $350 to provide another colorblind child with these life-changing glasses.
The fundraiser raised over $37,000. And EnChroma, a company that produces colorblind glasses, matched every pair the Jones family bought – doubling the number of people helped by the fundraiser.
