Why This Nurse Chose Dr. Adele for Her Eyelid Surgery After Years of Hesitation
For Aleksandra, a nurse with years of healthcare experience, the decision to undergo upper eyelid surgery wasn’t just about aesthetics. It was about seizing the moment and trusting the right specialist. Her journey with Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammadi (known as “Dr. Adele”) at Assil Gaur Eye Institute demonstrates how family history, established patient relationships, and expert surgical skill can come together to create natural, confidence-boosting results.
Hereditary droopy eyelids
Aleksandra’s awareness of sagging upper eyelids came from an intimate source. “My dad and my mom have drooping skin of the eyelids, and for a while, my mom was considering having surgery,” she explains. While aging, chronic eye rubbing, and nerve damage can all cause ptsosis, or sagging skin of the eyelid, hereditary factors can play a role too. Genetic influences on skin elasticity and eyelid skin characteristics often contribute to excess skin on the upper lids. These make some individuals more likely to develop sagging upper eyelids earlier in life.
Sadly, Aleksandra’s mother’s plans were cut short by a cancer diagnosis. “She passed away, so she never had time to get anything done.” This loss gave Aleksandra perspective on timing. “I figured why wait, now is the time. You don’t know how much time you have,” she reflects.
A long-standing relationship with AGEI
Aleksandra’s trust in AGEI wasn’t built overnight. “I’m a long-term patient at AGEI. I had my first implantable contact lens (EVO ICL) surgery in 2020,” she shares. Her ophthalmology journey was complex, requiring multiple procedures. “I was a complicated case because I had more procedures after my ICL. I had Lasik, and a touch-up… so I’ve been kind of in-house there for a while.”
This extended relationship with the practice gave Aleksandra confidence when considering cosmetic procedures. “I’ve seen other doctors there, but Dr. Adele was kind of new for me, especially with how long I’ve been going to the institute,” she notes. Despite not having worked with Dr. Adele before, Aleksandra’s trust in AGEI’s standards translated to trust in their newest specialist.
Aleksandra also found other sources that bolstered her decision to seek care from Dr. Adele. “I was following the practice on Instagram and the work they’re doing, and I saw Dr. Adele was doing eye lifts,” she recalls. “And I thought I should do that, why wait? They looked so great! So I went to see her.”
The consultation confirmed what Aleksandra hoped. “Dr. Adele said I was a good candidate,” she explains. Aleksandra’s motivations were clear and honest and she shared them with Dr. Adele. “It was more of a cosmetic thing. I just wanted to open up my eyes.” Seeing before-and-after results of other patients helped crystallize her decision. “I saw some patients on Instagram and how good they looked, and I wanted that too.”

Exceptional care with Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammad
As a healthcare professional, Aleksandra understood the importance of choosing the right surgeon for upper eyelid blepharoplasty. “Friends told me there are other doctors who could maybe do it cheaper, ‘it’s just skin,'” she recalls them saying. “But I said no, it’s your eyes. I’m going to the person that I trust.”
Both upper eyelid surgery and lower eyelid surgery are often done for cosmetic reasons. Yet, that doesn’t change the fact that such surgery involves delicate ophthalmic structures that require an oculoplastic surgeon’s expertise, highlighting the need for treatment from someone trained in both ophthalmology and plastic surgery. “Having been with AGEI so long made my decision to get an upper eyelid blepharoplasty from a doctor at the institute a little easier,” Aleksandra notes.
Surgical treatment for droopy eyelids – smooth and pain-free

Aleksandra planned her upper blepharoplasty procedure thoughtfully. “I got it done over the summer. I took about 10 days off of work for my surgery and recovery, and it was a great decision,” she shares. This planning allowed enough time for the postoperative period without work pressure, ensuring proper healing and follow-up care.
Aleksandra’s experience on surgery day exceeded her expectations. “All of the staff was very supportive and explained everything. They did a great job in walking me through the procedure, both pre and post op,” she recalls. The preparation helped her feel comfortable with what would happen, from the local anesthesia (no general anesthesia needed) to the excision (cutting) of excess eyelid skin along the natural crease of her upper eyelid.
“That day was marvelous. It went really fast and smoothly. I felt no pain, and I was very relaxed,” Aleksandra emphasizes.
The outpatient procedure typically involves carefully removing excess upper eyelid skin through precisely placed incisions (cuts) along the upper eyelid crease, with super careful attention to the eyelid margin and surrounding structures. The use of fine sutures (surgical stitches) means there will be minimal visible scarring.
Dr. Adele’s excellent post-op care
Aleksandra’s postoperative course was remarkably smooth. “The post-op was very easy going, and it went right to plan,” she reports. “My sutures were actually able to be removed early,” Aleksandra adds.
The healing process delivered the outcomes she hoped for. “There was minimal scarring, and it’s very hard to see. No one can notice any incision lines or anything like that,” Aleksandra shares. This is the distinguishing characteristic of expert upper eyelid surgery: rejuvenation without obvious signs of surgery.
The true test of successful upper blepharoplasty came when Aleksandra returned to work. “When I came back to work, people could tell that I looked different, but they couldn’t pinpoint it. It looked so natural,” she explains with satisfaction.
Aleksandra admitted that there’s always concern about surgical results before going into a procedure. “Some people may look unnatural. You know, the edges of the incisions don’t look good, but mine look very nice,” she states. The subtle enhancement achieved exactly what she wanted: more open, refreshed-looking eyes without the telltale signs of cosmetic surgery.
“It’s a big difference,” Aleksandra emphasizes. “I think it even makes my eye color pop so much more.” This enhancement of natural features rather than creating an artificial appearance demonstrates Dr. Adele’s skill in upper lid repositioning and careful attention to maintaining natural anatomical relationships.
A lifelong patient of AGEI
Aleksandra reflects that she’s really happy with her decision. “I definitely don’t regret doing it. I look different, but better, in a good way” she states simply.
Her assessment of Dr. Adele combines professional respect with personal appreciation. “Dr. Adele’s approach and work is just great. It instantly showed me that she is the right person, and I trusted her,” Aleksandra declares.
For other healthcare professionals considering cosmetic procedures, Aleksandra’s experience offers valuable insights. One is choosing specialists you trust, not compromising on quality for cost when it comes to your eyes. Another is planning adequate recovery time. A third is selecting a plastic surgeon whose work demonstrates consistently natural results. Aleksandra’s journey from long-term AGEI patient to satisfied upper blepharoplasty patient illustrates how established relationships within a practice can lead to confidence in exploring additional services, particularly when those services are provided by skilled oculoplastic surgeons who prioritize both aesthetic outcomes and eye health.

Frequently asked questions about blepharoplasty surgery, recovery, and results
How long should I plan to take off work after an eyelid lift?
Most patients need 7-10 days for initial recovery. However, this varies by individual and the nature of your work. Sutures are typically removed within a week. Though you may have some residual swelling or minor asymmetry during early healing, most people feel comfortable returning to work once the sutures are out.
Will my upper blepharoplasty results look natural, or will people know I had surgery?
When performed by an experienced oculoplastic surgeon, upper eyelid blepharoplasty creates natural-looking rejuvenation. The incisions are placed along the natural crease of your upper eyelid, making them virtually invisible once healed. When comparing before and after photos, most patients look noticeably more refreshed or rested but anyone who isn’t aware they had surgery often can’t identify exactly what changed.
What should I expect during the postoperative period in terms of care and restrictions?
You’ll need to apply antibiotic ointment as directed, use artificial tears if you experience dry eyes, apply cold compresses initially to reduce swelling, sleep elevated, avoid strenuous exercise for at least a week, and protect your eyes with dark glasses. Follow-up appointments ensure proper healing, and any concerns about swelling, scarring, or asymmetry should be discussed with your surgeon.
Can upper blepharoplasty be combined with other procedures for facial rejuvenation?
Yes, upper eyelid surgery can be combined with lower blepharoplasty to address lower lid issues such as fat pads, a brow lift if you have sagging brows affecting your appearance, or other cosmetic procedures like Botox or filler treatments. Some patients also address functional issues like ptosis (droopy eyelids affecting vision) during the same surgical procedure. Your oculoplastic surgeon will discuss which combinations make sense for your goals and anatomy.
