How Lower Blepharoplasty Helped Ivory Feel Confident in Front of the Camera Again

As an entertainer who practically lives in front of the camera, Ivory knew she needed to address her under-eye hollows. They made her self-conscious, and no amount of makeup seemed to fix them. “My eye bags were so bad,” she recalls. “I didn’t want pictures anymore, and it was really affecting my self-confidence. I’m an entertainer, and it was just not what I wanted.”

In addition to trying to disguise them with makeup techniques, she had also tried a variety of other remedies. “Skincare creams, diets, parasite cleanses…I tried everything,” Ivory says, “Except injections and under-eye filler; I was advised by a friend’s injector not to do injections and dermal fillers in the under-eye area as they wouldn’t really help and can be complicated.” While dermal fillers can help with some cosmetic concerns, Ivory decided to take the injector’s advice.

Eventually, she began researching facial plastic surgeons and whether surgery could help with her dark circles. “I had seen quite a few doctors’ profiles on Instagram,” Ivory remembers, “and I had even talked to a few.

But when I saw Dr. Adele’s profile, I was amazed.” After looking at Dr. Adele’s patients’ before-and-after blepharoplasty results, especially those who had a lower blepharoplasty for lower eyelid bags and hollows, Ivory felt hopeful that Dr. Adele could help her.

“I could tell she was different and extremely skilled,” Ivory says. “She really stood out in her field as an oculoplastic surgeon and an artist.” Ivory sent the profile to a friend who had been researching eye procedures and whose mother had also undergone a blepharoplasty. The friend’s response was immediate: “Wow, she looks like she’s really skilled. You should look into her.”

So, Ivory did. “I sent Dr. Adele a direct message on Instagram… and she got back to me so fast.” Soon, a consultation was scheduled.

Finding a surgeon who understood her under-eye concerns

When Ivory walked into Assil Gaur Eye Institute for her appointment, she almost immediately felt something she hadn’t felt with the other surgeons she’d spoken to.

“I felt intuitively — call it intuition, or an inkling — but something hit me in my soul that said, ‘this is your doctor.’ I didn’t get that feeling with anyone else.”

As an artist, Ivory was struck by the art on the walls, including several pieces painted by Dr. Adele herself. She also felt incredibly welcomed by the team at Assil Gaur Eye Institute. “It seemed like not only are these people skilled in what they do medically, but they also tap into something — a part of themselves that goes beyond schooling,” she says. “To me, that was like, ‘I trust that Dr. Adele has tapped into something that’s different.'”

During the consultation, Dr. Adele and Ivory talked about the hollow look of Ivory’s eyes, but Dr. Adele also pointed out something else – one eye was smaller (eyelid ptosis). Ivory already knew this but had never been able to fix it. In person, it was subtle, but in photographs it was visible. And it was just another thing Ivory had tried to hide and compensate for with creams and makeup.

When Ivory shared all of this with Dr. Adele, the response was not hesitation. It was excitement. Ivory recalls, “She said, ‘I know I can really help you. You’re the perfect candidate — and I can also even out your eyes.'”

What lower blepharoplasty can address

Before and after Lower Blepharoplasty at Assil Gaur Eye Institute.

Lower blepharoplasty, also known as lower eyelid surgery, addresses the under-eye area. It often involves removing excess fat or repositioning fat pads to restore volume, tightening loose skin, and smoothing the transition between the lower eyelid and the cheek with muscle and structural tightening. It can also be combined with collagen-stimulating procedures like platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections or laser resurfacing.

Lower eyelid rejuvenation can significantly improve sunken eyes, loose skin, tear trough hollows and shadows, and a generally tired appearance.

The procedure is typically performed on an outpatient basis, under local anesthesia with oral or IV sedation, and patients go home the same day.

For patients like Ivory, whose concerns included both significant under-eye bags and asymmetry between the two eyes, the procedure requires both technical precision and an aesthetic touch.

Oculoplastic surgeons, like Dr. Adele at Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI), are uniquely positioned for this work. Their training encompasses both the medical complexity of the eye and the cosmetic artistry the results demand.

What Ivory’s lower blepharoplasty surgery with Dr. Adele was like

Ivory was nervous, but she trusted Dr. Adele, and that trust carried her through the procedure and recovery process.

“During the procedure you’re kind of awake, but I didn’t feel anything,” she says. “I could talk to Dr. Adele if I was feeling pressure or anything. It wasn’t terrible — afterward you’re a little out of it. I was a little nervous, but it went by so fast. It was over before I knew it.”

When she got home, she looked for the sutures and couldn’t find any. That’s because Dr. Adele uses a transconjunctival approach that minimizes incisions and sutures. “You couldn’t even see them. She’s so skilled,” Ivory remarks.

“The first couple of days were a little rough,” admits Ivory, which can be typical with any procedure. But with cold compresses and rest, the healing process moved quickly. Once the stitches came out, it moved even faster. Soon enough, Ivory was back to doing her thing. “A week out, family members couldn’t tell I’d had surgery at all,” says Ivory, “but when I was fully healed, they could definitely tell something was different.”

Natural-looking lower blepharoplasty results: Ivory’s experience

“The results are dramatic, but they’re completely natural,” Ivory says.

“I love being in front of the camera now, doing my makeup,” she says. “I feel the most beautiful I’ve ever felt. I don’t look shocked and surprised — it’s just so natural.”

With the bags, asymmetry, and dark circles gone, her confidence was restored.

“I’ve had people calling me, wanting to know exactly who did it, because it really just took so well and looks amazing. It’s opened up so many blessings.”

Ivory doesn’t hesitate to recommend Dr. Adele. “I would recommend her to literally everyone. Dr. Adele is a rockstar in her own right.”

Frequently asked questions about lower blepharoplasty

How is an oculoplastic surgeon different from a plastic surgeon for eyelid procedures?

Oculoplastic surgeons complete specialized fellowship training that combines ophthalmology (requiring a deep understanding of the eye’s anatomy, function, and surrounding structures) with reconstructive and cosmetic surgical technique. This dual expertise is particularly valuable for procedures around the eyes, where even small variations in approach can affect both appearance and vision.

Will lower blepharoplasty results look natural?

In skilled hands, yes. The goal of lower blepharoplasty is refreshed, rested eyes that look true to you. Incisions placement, the technique used for fat removal, fat grafting, or fat repositioning, and attention to symmetry between the two eyes all affect whether the results look natural or overdone.

Can blepharoplasty correct asymmetry between the eyes?

Yes, in many cases. An experienced oculoplastic surgeon like Dr. Adele can assess the degree of asymmetry and address it during the procedure, adjusting the approach for each eye individually to create a more balanced result. This requires careful pre-surgical assessment and the ability to make precise, customized decisions rather than applying a one-size-fits-all technique.

How long does recovery take after lower blepharoplasty?

Most patients find the first few days the most uncomfortable, with swelling and bruising that gradually improve over the following week or two. Many return to normal activities, including light social engagements, within a week, particularly once stitches are removed. Full results, including the final settling of swelling, typically become visible over several weeks to a few months.
