“My vision was terrible by that point. I had to wear my eyeglasses constantly,” says Sarah, who had been wearing specs for 20 years. “I could only drive during the day. At night, I would ride-share or be stuck wherever I was, which was not fun.”

• A monofocal lens allows for very sharp focus for just one vision criterion (near, far, or intermediate vision).
• With traditional multifocal IOLs or ‌extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses, patients could have a pretty good range of vision (both near and far), though patients usually needed to wear glasses for reading.
• In some cases, one eye was fitted with a near-sighted corrective lens, and the other was fitted with a far-sighted corrective lens.
