Karen’s drooping eyelids were a family trait—her mother’s sister had the same problem. So, when her optometrist referred her to an ophthalmological plastic surgeon, Dr. Adeleh Yarmohammadi (known as "Dr. Adele" to her patients) at Assil Gaur Eye Institute (AGEI), she sprang into action.
“Nothing I was trying at home was working to make the puffiness around my eyes go away,” Karen says of the various creams she tried. “I felt like I was wasting my money. It was time for a real solution: lower and upper eyelid surgery, also known as a blepharoplasty.
Karen felt her eyes made her look older than she was. She also wanted to look her best while working at a high-finance company. A bit of rejuvenation would go a long way toward making Karen feel more comfortable looking at her own eyes in the mirror.
It didn’t take long for Karen to secure an appointment for her initial consultation with Dr. Adele. It would be an understatement to say it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. After filling out a medical history questionnaire, Dr. Adele examined Karen’s eyelids and discussed her aesthetic surgery goals.
Dr. Adele sketched what Karen’s eyes might look like after surgery. “Dr. Adele is truly an artist,” says Karen. She truly wants her patients to be radiant, beautiful, and have a great patient experience.”
It should be noted that double blepharoplasty is often considered elective cosmetic surgery, which was Karen's case. So, she took advantage of CareCredit's 0% interest offer to pay for her surgery.
Karen’s outpatient procedure was performed at Assil Gaur Eye Institute’s Beverly Hills clinic. After injecting local anesthesia and mild sedation, Dr. Adele began to work her magic. Blepharoplasties can be performed on the upper or lower eyelid to remove excess skin, muscle, and fat and restore a sharper, more youthful appearance to the eye's natural contour.
The doctor began with an upper eyelid blepharoplasty, focusing on the area between the eyelashes and eyebrows. Dr. Adele made a tiny incision along the natural crease of the upper eyelid skin, removing excess skin and fat.
After the tissue removal was completed, the incision was closed with fine sutures. Karen then spent a week working from home.
Dr. Adele then turned to Karen’s lower blepharoplasty at the Santa Monica clinic, making an incision just below the lower lash line. Like with her upper eyelid, excess fat, and skin were removed and repositioned to reduce puffiness and create an extremely smooth contour. The final step was to close the incision perfectly.
The entire procedure took about two hours. Karen then spent some time in the recovery room before a friend drove her home. The entire process took from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
On the first day, Karen stayed home from work and applied ice packs to her eyes. By the second day, she could work on her computer and continued her icing regime. She also started using a special ointment that Dr. Adele gave her.
“The bruising went away surprisingly quickly,” she says, adding that the surgical outcome was better than she could have imagined. “By two weeks, my eyes looked normal.”
“At my one-month follow-up appointment, I told Dr. Adele that she has achieved 100% patient satisfaction and greatly improved my quality of life. “You couldn’t even tell I had a cosmetic procedure done,” she said. She then added that her peripheral vision had also noticeably improved. “Dr. Adele has amazing surgical technique; she not only opened my eyes but gave me a brighter, youthful look. Plus, I don’t have any dark circles under my eyes!”
