A cataract is a common eye condition that occurs when the clear lens of your eye becomes cloudy or opaque. When the lens becomes cloudy, it prevents light from properly passing through to the back of the eye, leading to blurred or hazy vision. As the cataract grows, it can interfere with your vision, making daily activities like reading or driving difficult.
During cataract surgery, the clouded lens of the eye is removed and typically replaced with an artificial lens, called an intraocular lens (IOL), to restore clear vision. This procedure is generally safe and one of the most commonly performed surgeries.
