What is EagleVision®️ LASIK?

EagleVision®️ is the newest generation of LASIK surgery, developed at the Assil Eye Institute. After years in development by renowned LASIK expert Dr. Kerry Assil, we believe it offers the best outcome of any LASIK technology available today.

This state-of-the-art fifth-generation LASIK technique was initially developed for Assil’s patients who are high contact professional athletes (which include Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, Anthony Davis, Sugar Shane Mosley, Chris Paul and Paul George (to name just a few).

We quickly found, however, that EagleVision®️ LASIK achieved superior results, not just for patients who engage in high contact sports, but for all of our patients.

EagleVision®️ (which stands for “Elliptical-flap Aberrometry Guided Laser Enhanced Vision”) has become our premium LASIK procedure.

EagleVision®️ uses the very best surgical techniques & technologies

This revolutionary treatment combines the very best available surgical techniques and technologies, which include:

  • A Femtosecond laser for corneal flap creation
  • An all-new elliptical-shaped corneal flap, designed by Dr. Assil, which provides a larger vision correction area and substantially greater structural integrity
  • Corneal topography mapping using iDesign and vision measurement using Wavefront technology originally developed to measure deep space, to create an extraordinarily detailed surgical template
  • Customization of the surgical plan using a unique treatment algorithm based on each patient’s individual characteristics
  • A state-of-the-art Excimer laser to perform corneal reshaping safely and precisely.

How EagleVision®️ Laser Eye Surgery Works

The EagleVision®️ Protocol begins with careful measurements

The EagleVision®️ approach sub-divides the eye's ¨seeing surface” into 1240 adjacent zones. Each is individually measured for focusing deficiency (known as refractive error) using iDesign technology. It is the only FDA approved technology capable of performing such highly customized measurements for each individual eye.

The measurement of the refractive error in 1240 separate zones is in stark contrast to measurements taken for producing eyeglasses and contact lenses, which only use a single averaged correction for all zones.
In addition, the EagleVision®️ approach measures other optical imperfections (called “Higher-Order Aberrations”), that can’t be corrected with glasses or contacts.

The measurement of the refractive error in 1240 separate zones is in stark contrast to measurements taken for producing eyeglasses and contact lenses. They only use one (monofocal), two (bifocal), or, at most three (progressive) measurements to represent the entire eye’s focusing deficiency.

In addition, the EagleVision®️ approach measures other optical imperfections (called “Higher Order Aberrations”), that can’t be corrected with glasses or contacts.

Then the  cornea's surface is then scanned to precisely measure the elevations and dips (called “topography” of each of its 1240 unique zones

These detailed 3-D Aberration and Elevation maps of each eye are then programmed into the excimer laser.

Lastly, EagleVision®️ LASIK improves two key components of LASIK surgery:

Treatment plan customization

The EagleVision®️ protocol uses custom algorithms developed by Dr. Assil to further refine the laser’s surgical treatment program to account for patient age, lifestyle and eye shape. This allows us to give every eye the most personalized treatment program available anywhere.

Corneal flap customization

The EagleVision®️ corneal flap has been totally redesigned to be more ergonomic. It has been our experience that this not only provides safe access to a larger corneal treatment area but also minimizes the risk of flap complications and post LASIK dry eye symptoms.

The Observed Pros of EagleVision®️ LASIK

  • Ergonomic flap design offers a larger treatment area, added protection against eye injury and quicker healing
  • EagleVision®️ achieves sharper post-op visual acuity than other LASIK technologies
  • EagleVision®️ has a lower incidence of post-op Dry Eye findings
  • EagleVision®️ achieves greater flap stability versus other LASIK surgeries, which is especially appreciated by those who engage in high contact activities.

 Cons of EagleVision®️ LASIK

  •  The only con of EagleVision®️ is that this approach is more expensive because it involves the most advanced technologies available today, as well as more detailed vision measurements and customized surgical planning.
  • EagleVision®️ requires the integration of three different refined technologies (Excimer Laser, Femtosecond laser, and the iDesign) as well as the accompanying surgical planning using an algorithm that customized for each patient. This level of customization comes with an increased cost.
  • The EagleVision®️ approach also requires a very experienced surgeon and surgical team due to the extremely high level of customization and technology employed.

EagleVision®️ LASIK is offered exclusively at Assil Eye Institute

The surgeons at Assil Eye Institute have been personally trained by Dr. Assil and have the degree of skill and experience to deliver the very best outcomes available today. They have performed tens of thousands of these procedures, improving the quality of life of many happy southern Californians.

Assil Eye Institute is the only ophthalmology practice in greater Los Angeles with two surgical suites equipped with a VisxTM Star S4 Excimer laser, an Intralase iFS Femtosecond laser, and an iDesign Refractive Studio.
